I have the Southwest Companion Pass and while that is great I usually can only end up with a boarding number of B 30-60, because I earned the Companion Pass with  a credit card and a new refrigerator, we ended up with 150K miles for me to travel and a companion pass for my husband to travel with me for free. The flights we take are almost always FULL so getting an A-List Boarding would be superb!

It looks like some credit card spend might actually be valid for this promotion. The rules below state with 3 revenue round trips (or 6 one ways) OR 8750 in qqualifypoints between Jan 22- April 18. Then the fine print really doesn’t clarify but looks like it includes credit card points. Check it out and see if you are target for this SW promo.

*Tier Qualifying Points are earned from revenue flights or through select Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards® Credit Cards and are exclusive of bonuses and promotions.

$73 Southwest Airfare Sale

southwest sale

I just received this notice for Southwests newest sale… down to $73, meaning that award flights will be lower also. I usually try to wait for the $49 sales, but they are not as often. If you need a good deal on a flight try this Southwest deal.

Its just about the right time to begin working on the points you want in earn with Southwest in 2015.

If you don’t have one already, the Chase Southwest Visa Card. Right now it is back to 50,000 points for the bonus.   you could also sign up for the Chase Southwest Visa Premier Business Card and get 50,000 for the business card also, and then they also offer the Southwest Chase Rapid Rewards PLUS personal and business for 50K each. (so remember 4 cards total, Premier or Plus, Personal or Business)

People have been known to be approved for all 4 of these and get all 4 bonuses! But I think Chase has tightened that a bit.  Still if you applied for and  received 2 (a personal and a business) then meeting both would qualify you for 100,000 points, leaving only a paltry 10K points need by shopping on the Southwest Portal, easy peas.

You could be flying yourself and a friend free in very little time.  If you get the card next week, you can time your bonus to arrive January-March, meaning you would only need 70,000 more to earn your companion pass (as long as the companion pass program stays the same for 2015) it would be good the remainder of 2015 and all of 2016.  You definitely do NOT want your bonus to arrive before January

I applied for only 1 Chase Southwest Premier card and simply because I was ready for  a new refrigerator, dishwasher and lawnmower… all purchased on sale and with Sears bonus rewards points for Southwest, plus Bonus Sears MVP, I bought $3325 worth of gift cards through the Southwest portal at 9x points. Later that night I went back through the Southwest portal to Sears, still at 9x points and bought my items.  After miserable 2 month wait I received enough points to earn 113000 miles with southwest to use for free tickets PLUS my souse (or friend of my choosing for the year) flies FREE with me. The total in FREE airfare is about $3300. Nice trade on the fridge! Plus, with my Sears MVP bonus I also earned $225. in Sears money.

So if you need to get there… and you need to fly… definitely get the Southwest Visa Premier.Southwest Visa

Hope your weekend is starting off Great.

Coveted Southwest Companion Pass

So close…..  the Coveted Southwest Companion Pass

Companion Status

I have only been chasing miles and points since about mid June this year. It started slow. We were headed on a short trip and so I was checking around to see if I get points on the hotels and figuring out what the deal was on the Southwest Credit Card. We fly Southwest mostly because we live near a SW Hub (BWI) and most our trips are typically to Columbus, Ohio to visit family (also a SW Hub) or Florida… yeah Southwest all the way. I love that they often have sales to Columbus for $69 and sometimes even $49.

As you can see…. since I started accumulating miles… I haven’t really been flying anywhere and yet I am 79% finished getting my Southwest Companion Pass. I made some mistakes along the way and if I had known certain things I am sure I would have already acquired it. I will share a few of my mistakes later.

One of the hardest things to do is wait… wait … wait… for your points to show up from some activity that you pondered and calculated over and over. Then you make the leap into something… a new credit card with a sign up bonus, transfer points from another loyalty program… make a large purchase through a shopping portal. Then you wait. Hoping you didn’t somehow make a mistake and not going to get your points. Trial and error is the best way to put this. Read the blogs, I will post a list of the ones I have found the most helpful, informative, up to date and accurate.

As you can see here, once I decided this was my goal…. things really took off.

I have other points coming… The great Sears Shopping 18X points was scary. I went through the SW portal to get $2300 gift cards. Then waited an hour to get my gift cards by e-mail so I could go back through the SW shopping portal to get a refrigerator and dishwasher. We had been planning for awhile to get these and you should have seen the look my husband gave me when I said (at 4pm on Saturday) that we needed to go to look at appliances at Sears… like NOW! Because I was going to order them on-line. He was 2 vodka’s in for the evening and said well ok but your driving. Now the wait os on…  will I get the points I expect…. my calculation is about  41400. I hate the waiting. What if the points don’t count because the item hasn’t shipped from Sears? I had that happen with JCPenny order. I only received a portion of the bonus because some of the items shipped separately. This hobby is always YMMV… Your mileage may vary, literally.
